Sardine & Anchovy Head Soup

Ingredients

  • 8 Cups Water
  • 2 Anchovy Heads  
  • 2 Sardine Heads  
  • 4 Vine-Ripened Tomatoes, deseeded
  • 1 tsp Parsley, chopped
  • 1 stick Celery, chopped
  • 3 Carrots, large (peeled and cut)
  • ½ Cup Hot Water

Instructions

  1. Separate the fish heads from the body. Clean off the fish and debone them.
  2. Add the eight cups of water to the boiling pot along with the fish heads and set the stove on high heat.
  3. Peel the carrots and chop along with the celery and parsley.
  4. Then mix the tomatoes with a little hot water in a food processor.
  5. Separate the fish heads from the broth and throw away the refuse. Keep the stock off to the side.
  6. In a medium-sized saucepan, brown the tomatoes for about four minutes.
  7. Add the broth and chopped veggies.
  8. Set the saucepan on high heat and bring everything to a boil, about 20 minutes.
  9. Add pieces of fish meat and allow it to cook for another 15 minutes or until well cooked through.
  10. Let it cool to room temperature and serve it immediately to your dog.
  11. Do not freeze.

Cod Filet Chowder

This mock chowder for your canine companion provides all the necessary protein and fatty acids it needs for the day. This should make about two meals for your dog. So, you can put it in the fridge after you portion some out for your pup to eat right away.

Ingredients

  • 4 Cod Filets, no bones or skin
  • 1 Yellow Squash, deseeded and remove the skin (cubed)
  • 4 Cups Cabbage, chopped
  • 2 Hardboiled Eggs
  • 1 Green Apple, no seeds or core and chopped
  • ½ Cup Pumpkin Puree, plain and unseasoned
  • 2½ Cups White Rice, cooked
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Cook the white rice in water, about 55 minutes.
  2. Boil eggs for 13 minutes. When finished, run them under cold water for about five minutes.
  3. Remove the skin and debone the Cod.
  4. Chop and/or cube the apple, squash and cabbage.
  5. Removing the eggshell and chop the egg.
  6. Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan and cook the cod for a few minutes. Cook until it flakes away easily.
  7. Add the eggs, squash, apple, pumpkin puree and cabbage.
  8. Stir well, cover and simmer for around 10 to 15 minutes.
  9. Add the cooked white rice and cover the mixture with water.
  10. Let this simmer for another five to 10 minutes.
  11. Take the pan off the heat source and allow it to cool to about room temperature.
  12. Serve it to your dog and refrigerate the rest. Do not freeze.

Seafood Stew

This stew recipe is great for pups with upset stomachs. The dill and parsley help reduce inflammation along with the rosemary. The only thing you have to watch out for is where you source the salmon and shrimp. Ensure they are fresh, not farmed and wild-caught. Do not use fish from the Pacific Ocean.

  • 1 Cup Atlantic Salmon, chopped and boiled

  • 4 oz. Green Beans, fresh and chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse and clean all seafood well. Remove the heads, skin, tails, bones, veins and other undesirable parts. Chop them into pieces your dog can eat easily.
  2. In a medium pot boil sauté the salmon and shrimp pieces with the coconut oil.
  3. Then add the vegetable stock.
  4. Chop the green beans, celery, rosemary, parsley and dill.
  5. Then, add the herbs and vegetables once the meat finishes cooking.
  6. Reduce the temperature to a rolling simmer for about 30 minutes.
  7. Serve to your dog and refrigerate the rest.

Flounder Soup Stock

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Flounder, heads
  • 2 Carrots, large
  • 2 Celery Stalks
  • 1 Tbsp Parsley, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Rosemary, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Dill, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Butter, unsalted
  • 2 Quarts Water

Instructions

  1. Clean the flounder and remove the skin along with the bones. Keep the fish heads.
  2. Chop all the vegetables and herbs. They don’t have to be perfect or finely chopped, just enough.
  3. In a large stock pot, melt the unsalted butter and sauté the fish heads for about 15 minutes on medium-high heat.
  4. Remove the fish heads from the pot. Add veggies and herbs along with more butter, if needed.
  5. Stir the stock well for about five minutes or until you can smell the herbs.
  6. Add the water and boil the stock. Let this sit at a rolling simmer on a lower temperature for 20 to 30 minutes.
  7. Separate the broth from the veggies and herbs. Allow the stock to cool and toss the refuse.
  8. You can serve it directly to your dog or you can put it in another homemade recipe.
  9. Put the rest in the freezer.
